As you all wind down from a busy (and hopefully enjoyable!) Nutcracker season and treat yourself to some well-deserved rest and relaxation, listen to this DanceWell podcast while you soak your aching muscles in the bathtub. It was released back in September (which shows you how far behind I’ve been with my personal research and education!), so you may have heard it already…but in case you haven’t, it’s worth a listen.
The DanceWell crew interviews Gayanne Grossman (PT, BFA, Med, FIADMS, dance medicine expert and instructor) about the variations in human anatomy and how that can impact your dance technique. This will help you appreciate the differences in our genetic ability, which is super important for learning to maximize your unique version of ballet (instead of feeling like you’re a terrible dancer when you can’t make your technique look like the textbook ideal of ballet perfection). It’s a concept I talk about often – learn to apply ballet technique to your individual body instead of forcing your body into ballet technique. It’s a great interview and very empowering for appreciating your unique art:
Other than that, I want to wish you HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! I hope you enjoy time with family, friends, delicious food and all the other simple pleasures of life! It’s been a great year…and I’m excited to see what 2020 has in store for us! ENJOY!
